I took the following video clip at my youngest sons Chumash party (A party celebrated in many religious schools in Isreael in first grade, when the children receive their first chumash (bible)). The school took both first grade classes and their parents to Jerusalem, to the Western Wall, and made a whole ceremony there before giving the children their Chumash. Their Melamed or teacher is playing the guitar and you can hear the children singing in the background.
This second clip is a ceremony which they performed at the Western wall before giving the children the chumash. Their is no religious requirement to perform this ceremony when giving a child their first chumash. The school decided to do this ceremony to make it a memorable occasion for the children.
